Our story

Pellinki summer market is located at Sandholmsudden at the northwest of Pellinki, by the inner fairway. Rumors about a succesful summer market in Barösund, woke the idea of establishing a summer market also in Pellinki. One day in spring 1984, interested islanders met at the school, discussing were to place the marketplace. It was important that it should be easily reached both by land and by sea. Different locations were suggested, both on the islands and in Tirmo at the mainland. Then Tillman suggested that the market could be held at their yard at Sandholmsudden.

The first summer market was held 1st of June 1984 with some ten stallholders and nearly a thousand visitors. Stallholders offered fresh, smoked and canned fish, vegetables, home made pastries, rag carpets, knitted mittens and socks, different handicrafts and much more. The second year summer season ended with an Autumn Market, a tradition that still goes on.

In 2009 the association Pellinge Torghandlare r.f. was founded, and the year after that ten red stalls were built. Every permanent stallholder hire their own stall and some are rented out to guesting vendors. In 2014 Pellinki summer market turned 30 years which was celebrated by offering all visitors coffee and cake.

Near the marketplace is Benitas Café, a fully licensed café with lunch and ála carte, groceries and free Wi-Fi. They also manage the guest harbour with rental sauna and laundry, bicycle rental and a fuel and gas station. There is also a BBQ place and outhouse on the cape.

Pellinki market place is open Saturday forenoon from the end of May to half September and Wednesday evenings in July
